Before ipads, iphones, GPS, and all things tech that we all struggle with at times, breast cancer was still rampant and making its presence known. There were no beautiful boutiques, certified fitters, and few if any choices of products in most areas.

A beloved member of our family was diagnosed with breast cancer. Finding herself in an unsightly stock rooms with no one to help, she tried her best to fulfill her own needs for breast prosthesis and bras. I remember her saying how she resented having to shop for a breast prosthesis like a pair of shoes.

Enter Lucille Roberson, mother of Kathy Stanley and Vicki Gatwood. Always willing to give of herself to help others,
Lucille recognized that women diagnosed with cancer
needed help, support, and dignity.

 

Lucille loaded her van and suitcases and began going to
patients private homes to fit them with new mastectomy 

breast forms and bras. She did this for many years.

Those were long but rewarding days, and she made many friends along the way. Later, her two daughters, Kathy Stanley and Vicki Gatwood as well as her granddaughter, Lauren Miller, also  became Certified Mastectomy Fitters.

​

In honor of her tireless efforts, appreciation was shown for her by naming a new mastectomy bra, 'The Lucille Bra', while at the 'Essentially Women Focus Conferences.'
 

Though the world has changed in so many ways – being warm, caring and an inspiration to others will never become outdated.
